Chamale Marina Hurricane Plans 1. Definitions: A. Marina description: Chamale cove marina is a private marina that is managed by a team of members elected by all marina slip owners. It contains 129 slips of varying sizes. B. Hurricane closure: The marina shall be closed to all traffic from 48 hours prior to the forecast arrival of a named tropical system. 2. Actions to be taken by boat slip owners: A. prior to the arrival of a named tropical system in our area, all vessel owners Will make arrangements to remove trailable boats from the slips and move to A safe location. B. All vessels shall have additional dock lines attached with appropriate to allow for rising tidal surge of at least 6 feet. C. It is suggested that boats be secured to the pilings with multiple strong lines to help reduce damage to the docks and vessels. D. Slip owners should insure that any vessel occupying their slip, either their own or a rental has liability insurance. Emergency contact numbers are necessary for the marina association to contact vessel owners in the event the boat has to be relocated or assisted from sinking. E. Remove all loose objects from the docks. Remove and stow electrical cords. 3. Actions to be taken by the marina association: A. Secure the entrance to the marina to insure non-member vessels are not permitted to enter and cause damage to marina member’s vessels and docks. 1. Tie up vessel across marina entrance canal or a large line with a closed Sign attached. 2. Tie boats across the canal between the 20ft slips. This will also prevent larger vessels from entering. Do it 48 hours prior to storm landfall. 3. Shut off the two water valves to the docks. B. request the local news media to advertise the closure of the marina.(this should give us some legal protection from irate fisherman.) 4. After the storm passes: A. Within a reasonable time after the evacuees return, a survey of the marina damage should be undertaken. The marina association board will prepare a prioritized list of repairs. A special appropriation may be required from each slip owner to affect the necessary repairs. B. vessel owners will be encouraged to clear their vessels from the canal and return to their slips, if possible. Vessel owners will be responsible for coordinating the retrieval of their sunken vessels with their respective insurers. C. Sunken vessels not insured and apparently abandoned will be raised and removed from the marina. The associated costs will be billed to the vessel owner.
